Lina is my best friend. To me she is a very sweet and kind person but she lies way too much. If she changes her ways she could be a very good person but she insist on lying. I believe that this will bring unhappiness to her but I can’t convince her it will. Lina is twenty- four which is true but she will say that she is twenty- one. Lina is five foot two and brown skin. Her eyes are beautiful and brown but she deceives with contacts of different colors. Her hair is a light brown and to her shoulders though she wears wigs to hide the truth. She’s slender but not to skinny. She usually wears big clothes to hide figure unless she is dressed up. She has a high pitched voice but it is tolerable.
Lina and I have been best friends since the second grade, and even then she couldn’t help lying about everything. By the time we got to the eighth grade she had developed a thing for stealing but her heart was with lying. Lina was never really a bad person; she just dealt with to many bad people. For instance her ex- boyfriend Jeff was every part of the word wrong.
It all started two years ago on New Year’s Day, in 2018 at Missouri’s Grand Ball in Maine City. Lina and I were going for the annual promotion ceremony of F.C Industries. F.C Industries is a monopoly company that markets the only flying cars in the world. I was a GM of one of the plants in Missouri and was being promoted to Vice-president of the company. Lina was only there to find a “sugar daddy” as she called it. “Kyle” Lina says pulling on his jacket, “You think I’ll find somebody rich?” “Do you really want me to answer that?” he says pulling away. “What? She says with a pouty face. Kyle sighs and says “Sure you will but you’ll be miserable.” He turns and walks away. Lina turns and walks slowly to the bar.”Hey a voice says deeply into Linas ear.
She turns around and sees a tall light skinned man about five foot six and two hundred and fifty pounds. “You look very beautiful tonight, what’s your name.” he says taking her by the hand. “It’s Lina, and yours? “Jeff.” he says with a smile on his face. “Jeff it’s nice to meet you,” she says turning back towards the bar. “So”? Jeff says curiously. “What’s your career?” ~My career? ~ Lina thinks to her self, my career? “Well” he said impatiently “Oh sorry I spaced out. I’m a interior designer” “Really have you done any celebrity houses or any big name halls?” Yes” Lina says after ordering two double shots of tequila. “Oh so who have you designed for?” He says sitting next to her. “I’ve done the Bellagio Hotel in Vegas, Carnegie Hall in New York and several different places. I’ve even done this room.” She says taking a sip of tequila.
“Impressive” he says with a smirk on his face. Really it is, ok well I guess I should tell you what I do” “Sure” she says watching Kyle in the distance. “Well ok I’m a Stock Broker” “Really” she says standing up. “Where are you going” he says jumping up to the ceiling. “Nowhere, I’m just observing my surroundings.” She says as she turns away from the bar. “Would you like to get out of here, I’m starved” she says drinking the last bit of tequila. “Well sure where do you want to go?” He says putting his suit jacket on. "Anywhere as long as it’s not here” she says. Jeff and Lina ease their way out of the Grand Hall. Kyle calls Lina on her cell phone. ~Ring, ring~ “Hello” Lina says in a drunken voice. “Lina where are you going” Kyle says in a worried way. “Nowhere” she says “Just don’t worry about me I’m fine.” Lina hangs up and stumbles on to a car. “So Jeff do you want to go back to my place we can start something” she says stumbling on to him. “Are you sure about that Lina” he says “Sure I am, now lets’ get out of here. Finally they leave and end up over at Lina’s place. Meanwhile Kyle is being toasted for his amazing work as GM and is about to give a speech for his promotion to vice-president of F.C Industries. “I just want to say thank you to all those who believed in me, and the president who gave me this stupendous opportunity.” “Well we at F.C industries are glad to have you as a hard working employee to give you such a huge promotion.” He says in a very jolly voice “Thank you Mr. Johnson”. “Kyle, if you don’t mind me asking, I thought you bought along a female friend. I have not seen her all night”. “Oh yeah”, he says with a shaky voice. “She has to work tomorrow so she didn’t want to stay out all night”. “Oh I was just wondering well Kyle I’ll see you on the fifteenth take a two week vacation before you come back to work. “Uh sure thing” Kyle gives an acceptance speech to the crowed then takes his leave. Kyle calls Lina to check on her. ~Ring, ring~, “Hello?” “Lina where are you?” I told you I was going home.” Then why are you whispering. “Gees… Kyle I’m sleep call back tomorrow.” “Fine Lina goodbye”, Kyle sighs and goes home to a peaceful sleep.
~Ring, ring, Ring, ring~ “Man who could possibly be calling this early. “Hello?” Kyle says out of agitation. “Kyle, wake up. “Who is this?” “Lina Duh, wake up” “What do you want” “Wow” she says with surprise “Why do you sound so angry?” “Well lets see, you ditched me for some guy then you call and wake me up why shouldn’t I be angry” “Well I just wanted to say congratulation but I guess your not in the mood, call me later then bye.” Kyle gives out a long calm and collective sigh and calls Lina back. In two short rings Lina answers, “Hello.” “Lina, I’m sorry for what I said a moment ago. “No problem” she replies. “Oh and thank you.” Lina comes to a long pause before she says anything else. “Lina are you still there” “yeah, sorry” she says in a shaky voice. “Are you ok” he says worried. “Yeah sure I’m fine Kyle” “You sound so petrified. Hey I’ll call you back later okay Kyle. Lina hurried off the phone so quickly that Kyle didn’t get a chance to say bye. Kyle hung up hopped in the shower, got dressed, and drove to Lina’s Victorian lakeside house at the edge of Maine City.
In haste he got out of his car and ran to the door where he rung the door bell about a million times before a voice asked “Who is it” from a far. “It’s me Kyle” he answered back. Before long Jeff came and opened the door. Click, in an instant the door opens and Kyle sees Jeff in a long black satin robe. Hey Jeff, who’s at the door? Jeff and Kyle stare each other down then Jeff answers it’s Kyle. In an instant, Lina runs down to greet him. “Hey Kyle what brings you here?” She says nearly out of breath. Nothing much just passing through and aren’t you going to introduce me to your “friend”? “Oh yes this is my boyfriend Jeff and Jeff this is my best friend Kyle.” Lina I’m going to get dressed for work ok.” “Ok” she replies. Lina and Jeff kiss and Jeff goes upstairs to get ready for work. Kyle gives Lina a shamed look and turns away. “Kyle, Lina whispers, why are you acting like that?” “Like what.” He said walking toward the door. “Kyle, stop it you know what I mean, “Look Lina I have to go I’ll see you later” “Kyle don’t lie to me.” She says grabbing his hand. “Why not you do it to me all the time so, there should not be a problem.” Kyle leaves out the house and sits on the porch. “Kyle I’m ….”“Look Lina you don’t have to say anything I know that everything you say is a lie. You lie for no reason especially to me. “Kyle that’s not true.” Lina sits next to Kyle “really it’s not.” “Seriously Lina you need to stop all of that nonsense.” Lina leans in toward Kyle “What are you doing” Kyle gently pushes her away. “What? What do you mean?” “Duh, you have a boyfriend so you can’t get close to me.” “Sure I can were just friends.” “Yeah we are but he may not think that, so you should keep your distance when you’re with me.” Lina stands up feeling insulted by Kyle’s comment. “How do you know what I know?” Kyle stands up and laughs, I know things your parents don’t know. Lina rolls her “What parents.” “So… you can tell the truth sometimes.” “What are you talking about? Kyle laughs harder. “Nothing, I’ll see you later Lina” “Um ok bye” Kyle leaves Lina’s house and heads back home.
Meanwhile, Jeff leaves out for work as a Stockbroker. Jeff is really a Barber in Frances. Frances is a small, livable island in the middle of Victorian lake. Jeff lives there with his wife and two children, who believe that he is working part- time at F.C industries as a mechanic on the late shifts. He’s supposed to work in Capital, a city about five miles away from Maine City.
Jeff’s phone suddenly starts to ring with a love song playing softly in the background. Without thinking twice, he answered his phone and said “Hi honey, I’ll be home soon.” It was a long pause before the person on the other end responded “Honey? How flattering I didn’t know we were giving nicknames to each other”. “Lina?” he asked nearly in disbelief of what he did. He came to a quick pause then said “Yeah I figured that you would not mind if we gave nicknames, but anyway what’s up?” “Nothing I just wanted to tell you that you left your ring on my dresser.” Jeff simply replied ok and he and Lina said their goodbyes.
In disbelief of what Jeff said to her, Lina decided to call Kyle to get a second opinion. Kyle’s phone rang twice and he answered in surprise “Hello?” “Hey Kyle what’s up?” she says not so enthused. “Nothing, what wrong?” “I don’t know.” At that Lina explains her feelings and beliefs. Kyle did not believe that anything she said to him was true, so he told her to simply move along with life and not to worry about it. With that Lina got so mad she crushed her phone in the palm of her hand and turned into a monster. She went into an isolated room in the house to vent for hundreds of hours. She would then fall asleep and dream about peace and happiness.
Kyle was feeling bad about what he said to Lina knowing that he shouldn’t. He went over her house and banged on the door until the dead were no longer resting. Lina quietly opened the door and to her surprise her five foot seven, brown skin, hazel eyed best friend was standing at her door. With open arms, Kyle embraced Lina’s frail body tightly. Still in a daze, she melted away knowing that it was wrong. Slowly backing away she invited Kyle into the house. “So what brings you back here?” Unable to answer, Kyle gave Lina a hug and took off.
Months pass and the lie’s between Jeff and Lina become very ridicules. Lina starts to drift apart from Kyle and Jeff becomes more controlling, so controlling that he begins to beat on Lina. Kyle was amazed to hear something like that come from Lina. He knew deep down Lina would learn her lesson about living a lie but he never suspected that she would learn it in this fashion. He didn’t believe her at first but could not help it when he saw her sporting a black eye. This made Kyle extremely angry that he could feel his blood boil. Out of anger between the two Kyle and Jeff get into a huge fight that nearly ended their lives. Lina was devastated and burst into tears after it was all over knowing that her best friend might not make it alive. She could only ask herself why she ever lied and what were the reasons for it. Out of fear of losing her only true friend she realized that being hidden in lies would only hurt in the end.
“Kyle what are you doing?” Lina says curiously “Nothing now” “OK, what were you doing before?” “I was writing the end of my story I think it’s going to be a big hit” “Well, we don’t have time to discuss it we have to get to that ceremony or you may not get your promotion so let’s go.”
